Software as a Service (SaaS) is a means of providing software applications for customers as an on-demand service. The applications are hosted by the service provider and offered to customer on a licensed basis. Through this model these types of applications are built to allow multiple customers or users to access data using the same software architecture. Therefore the provider is able to offer a higher quality of service regarding deployment of new features and technical support. By having these applications live on the internet (now commonly referred to as the "cloud"), there is no need for the customer to install hardware, maintain software, or train dedicated personnel.

ResLife Portal debutted in 2007, as the myRA Portal, to serve as a residential life management system for colleges and universities. Unlike other SaaS solutions, ResLife Portal focuses on the interaction between residential life staff and the residents living in a residence halls. The system provides centralized record keeping for the residential life staff, including residential life programming, resident attendance, and more.
